स॒माव॑वर्ति॒ विष्ठि॑तो जिगी॒षुर्विश्वे॑षां॒ काम॒श्चर॑ताम॒माभू॑त् । शश्वाँ॒ अपो॒ विकृ॑तं हि॒त्व्यागा॒दनु॑ व्र॒तं स॑वि॒तुर्दैव्य॑स्य ॥
समाववर्ति विष्ठितो जिगीषुर्विश्वेषां कामश्चरताममाभूत् । शश्वाँ अपो विकृतं हित्व्यागादनु व्रतं सवितुर्दैव्यस्य ॥
samāvavarti viṣṭhito jigīṣur viśveṣāṃ kāmaś caratām amābhūt | śaśvām̐ apo vikṛtaṃ hitvy āgād anu vrataṃ savitur daivyasya ||
English translation:
“The warrior, eager for victory, who has gone forth (to battle), turns back; (for) home is the desire of moving beiings; abandoning his half-wrought toil, the labourer returns (home) when the function of the divine Savitā (is suspended).”
