The Garga-samhita Verse 6.8.8, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 6 of Chapter 8 (The Marriages of All the Queens) of Canto 6 (dvaraka-khanda).

र्क्ष-राज-बिलं गत्वा
मणिं हर्तुं स्वयं हरिः
युद्धं कृत्वाष्ट-विंशाहं
अजयद् र्क्ष-नायकम्

rkṣa-rāja-bilaṃ gatvā
maṇiṃ hartuṃ svayaṃ hariḥ
yuddhaṃ kṛtvāṣṭa-viṃśāhaṃ
ajayad rkṣa-nāyakam

rkṣa—of the rksas; rājaof the king; bilam—to the cave; gatvā—going; maṇim—the jewel; hartum—to take; svayam—personally; hariḥLord Kṛṣṇa; yuddham—fight; kṛtvā—doing; aṣṭa-viṃśatwenty-eight; aham—days; ajayat—defeated; rkṣa-nāyakam—the king of the rksas.

English translation of verse 6.8.8:

Entering Jāmbavān's cave to recover the jewel, for 28 days Lord Kṛṣṇa fought with Jāmbavān, the king of the ṛkṣas.
