प्राप्ते ऽन्धकरे स्वारोहात्
को ऽपि बालं जहाति हि
त्वया निर्घृणया भूमौ
धृतो बालो महा-भये

prāpte 'ndhakare svārohāt
ko 'pi bālaṃ jahāti hi
tvayā nirghṛṇayā bhūmau
dhṛto bālo mahā-bhaye

prāpte—attained; andhakare—blinding darkness; sva—own; ārohāt—from the lap; kaḥ—who?; api—indeed; bālam—an infant; jahāti—puts down; hi—indeed; tvayā—by you; nirghṛṇayā—merciless; bhūmau—on the ground; dhṛtaḥ—placed; bālaḥ—infant; mahā—great; bhaye—in fear.

English translation of verse 1.14.39:

In that blinding darkness who took an infant from their lap and abandoned it?

You were so merciless that in that terrifying moment you placed your own infant boy on the ground.
