Brihad Bhagavatamrita (commentary)

by Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyana Gosvāmī Mahārāja | 2005 | 440,179 words | ISBN-13: 9781935428329

The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.4.16, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.4.16 contained in Chapter 4—Bhakta (the devotee)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.4.16:

श्री-प्रह्राद उवाच—
भगवन् श्री-गुरो सर्वं स्वयम् एव विचार्यताम् ।
बाल्ये न संभवेत् कृष्ण-भक्तेर् ज्ञानम् अपि स्फुटम् ॥ १६ ॥

śrī-prahrāda uvāca
bhagavan śrī-guro sarvaṃ svayam eva vicāryatām |
bālye na saṃbhavet kṛṣṇa-bhakter jñānam api sphuṭam || 16 ||

Śrī Prahlāda Mahārāja exclaimed: O Bhagavan Śrī Guru, think about this and mull it over. In childhood, knowledge of devotion to Śrī Kṛṣṇa has not fully matured.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Now, with four and half verses beginning with bālye here the analysis of the subject for consideration is being evaluated. It is said everywhere that in childhood knowledge has not fructified, and with that insufficient knowledge, what kind of bhakti to Śrī Kṛṣṇa is able to be proved?
