The Bhajana-rahasya Text 18, English translation, including commentary (vritti). The Bhajana-rahasya is a compilation of verses describing the mercy of the eight pairs of names (Yugala-nama) of the Maha-mantra. This is text 18 belonging to the chapter “Prathama-yama-sadhana (Nishanta-bhajana–shraddha)” representing the last six dandas of the night: approximately 3.30 a.m.–6.00 a.m.

The holy name is like the moonlight that causes the white lotus of allauspiciousness to blossom. The Skanda Purāṇa, Prabhāsa-khaṇḍa (quoted in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa 11.234) says:

मधुर-मधुरम् एतन् मङ्गलं मङ्गलानां सकल-निगम-वल्ली सत्-फलं चित्-स्वरूपम्
सकृद् अपि परिगीतं श्रद्धया हेलया वा भृगुवर नर-मात्रं तारयेत् कृष्ण-नाम

madhura-madhuram etan maṅgalaṃ maṅgalānāṃ sakala-nigama-vallī sat-phalaṃ cit-svarūpam
sakṛd api parigītaṃ śraddhayā helayā vā bhṛguvara nara-mātraṃ tārayet kṛṣṇa-nāma

The holy name is the most auspicious of all that is auspicious, and the sweetest of all that is sweet. It is the fully ripened transcendental fruit of all the creepers of the Śrutis. O best of the Bhṛgu dynasty, if a person even once chants the name of Śrī Kṛṣṇa without offence–be it with faith or indifferently–that chanting will deliver him from the bondage of material existence.

सकल मङ्गल हैते परम मङ्गल
चित्-स्वरूप सनातन वेदवल्ली फल

sakala maṅgala haite parama maṅgala
cit-svarūpa sanātana vedavallī phala

कृष्ण-नाम एक-बार श्रद्धाय हेलाय
याङ्हार वदने सेइ मुक्त सुनिश्चय

kṛṣṇa-nāma eka-bāra śraddhāya helāya
yāṅhāra vadane sei mukta suniścaya
