A beautiful figure of Siva as Bhairavar dancing on Kala. He is in a Tribhanga posture. Siva is four handed. What all he is holding–his main right hand is holding a Trisula, main left hand is holding a Kapala, his back right hand is not clear and his back left hand is holding a Mrga. Below his feet is Mahakala whom he controls with his Trisula.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
