This is the sculpture of Accuta Nayaka, the Nayaka king who built this temple. On either side you can see his two wives standing with Patakanjali Hasta.The above sculpture gives you a good idea about the attire of the king and queens during the Nayaka rule. The King was simple dressed with a Dhoti and he carried a sword and a dagger. He is not adorned with gaudy ornaments.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
