This image shows a sculpture produced using the lost wax (cire perdue) method.

‘Lost forms’ (Cire Perdue ) method:—From time immemorial the most widesperead method of casting has been preferred to as cire perdue or lost wax. In this method the shape of the desired object is modelled in was which is then given a coating of clay all over except for the mouth of the pouring channel. After the clay mould dries the wax is melted out and replaced with molten metal poured into the cavity. After the metal is sufficiently cooled the clay mould is broken off in order to reveal the cast image. The images in this art gallery are almost exclusively produced by this method.

This photo is from the collection of various artworks from Nepal, including the wood work found at Kumari Ghar, a special home/temple for the dwelling of Kumari at Basantapur.—The National Museum of Nepal (Rashtriya Museum) houses a variety of sculptures, carvings, statues, paintings and other objects grouped according to the major religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.
