Yudh (युध्).—4 Ā. (yudhyate, yuddha)

1) To fight, struggle, contend with, wage war; योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र समागताः (yotsyamānānavekṣe'haṃ ya ete'tra samāgatāḥ) Bhagavadgītā (Bombay) 1.23; Bhaṭṭikāvya 5.11.

2) To conquer or overcome in fight. -Caus. (yodhayati-te)

1) To cause to fight.

2) To oppose or encounter in fight with; सा बाणवर्षिणं रामं योधयित्वा सुरद्विषाम् (sā bāṇavarṣiṇaṃ rāmaṃ yodhayitvā suradviṣām) R.12.5.

3) To vanquish, conquer. -Desid. (yuyutsate) To wish to fight. -With नि (ni) to wrestle, box. -प्रति (prati) to encounter in fight, oppose.
