Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarVṛtādi (वृतादि).—A class of roots headed by the root वृत् (vṛt) which take optionally the Parasmaipada affixes when the vikaraṇa स्य (sya) of the future tense and the conditional mood, or the desiderative vikaraṇa सन् (san) is added to them; e.g. वर्त्स्यति,वर्तिष्यते (vartsyati, vartiṣyate); अवर्त्स्यत्, अवर्तिष्यत् (avartsyat, avartiṣyat); विवृत्संति, विवर्तिषते (vivṛtsaṃti, vivartiṣate) cf. Kāś. on P.I.3.92; cf.also P.VII.2.59.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
