Vināyakāṣṭamya (विनायकाष्टम्य) is the name of a festival that once existed in ancient Kashmir (Kaśmīra) as mentioned in the Nīlamatapurāṇa.—Vināyakāṣṭamya proceeds as folows: All the 8th days are prescribed for the worship of Vināyaka but the dark 8th of Āṣāḍha is specially efficacious in giving success if one worships Vināyaka and his gaṇas with sweetmeats, music and pleasing of the Brāhmaṇas on that day.
