Source: Shodhganga: The significance of the mūla-beras (natya)Vettuvavari is the name of a chapter of the Cilappatikāram: an ancient epic authored by Ilango Adigal representing an important piece of Tamil literature.—The Vettuvavari (a kind of dance of the hunters of the kuriñci tract), is one of the thirty cantos in Cilappatikāram where information on dance is found. Cilappatikāram is the book in Tamil literature that speaks most extensively on dance in ancient times.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
