Uttaramaṇḍala (उत्तरमण्डल) or Nāgiraṭṭa is a place-name classified as a maṇḍala and mentioned in the Gupta inscriptions. The Gupta empire (r. 3rd-century CE), founded by Śrī Gupta, covered much of ancient India and embraced the Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Uttaramaṇḍala it means “the Northern maṇḍala”. The province might have been divided into four mandates in the four directions from the point of view of administration. The village Kānteḍadaka is described to have formed a part of the Uttaramaṇḍala as mentioned in the record.
