Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA district and a town in Kosala. Once when the Buddha was staying at the Deer Park in Kannakatthala in the neighbourhood of the city, Pasenadi, who happened to be at Ujunna on business, visited the Buddha. On this occasion was preached the Kannakatthala Sutta (M.ii.125ff; MA.ii.757).
It was here too that Nigantha Kassapa came to see the Buddha. This visit is recorded in the Kassapa Sihanada Sutta. D.i.161ff.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
