- bad path (akuśala-mārga) and good path (kuśala-mārga);
- worldly path (laukika-mārga) and supraworldly path (lokottara-mārga);
- path of concentration (samādhi-mārga) and path of wisdom (prajñāmārga);
- impure path (sāsrava-mārga) and pure path (anāsravamārga);
- path of those who practice (śaikṣa-mārga) and path of those who no longer practice (aśaikṣa-mārga);
- path of seeing (darśana-mārga) and path of meditation (bhāvanā-mārga);
- path of those who seek the truth as a result of faith (śraddhānusārin) and path of those who seek the truth as a result of scripture (dharmānusārin);
- path of those who are candidates for the fruit of the religious life (phalapatipannaka-mārga) and path of those who are in possession of these fruits (phalaprāpta-mārga);
- path of expulsion of the conflicting emotions (ānantarya-mārga) and path of deliverance from the conflicting emotions (vimukti-mārga);
- path of whose who are convinced by means of faith (śraddhādhimukta-mārga) and path of those who have the speculative view (dṣṛṭiprāpta-mārga);
- path of those who are delivered by means of wisdom (prajñāvimukta-mārga) and path of those who are doubly delivered (ubhayatobhāgavimukta-mārga).
There are innumerable twofold paths of this kind.
Mahayana (महायान, mahāyāna) is a major branch of Buddhism focusing on the path of a Bodhisattva (spiritual aspirants/ enlightened beings). Extant literature is vast and primarely composed in the Sanskrit language. There are many sūtras of which some of the earliest are the various Prajñāpāramitā sūtras.
