1) (a) The act of causing to stand, fixing; founding, establishing, instituting; Mahābhārata (Bombay) 12.255.3. (b) Regulating, directing.
2) Fixing the thoughts, concentration of the mind, steady application, abstraction.
3) A dwelling, habitation.
4) A ceremony performed on a woman's perceiving the first signs of living conception; cf. पुंसवन (puṃsavana).
5) Fastening, rendering immovable; उत्थापनैरुन्नयनैश्चालनैः स्थापनैरपि । परस्परं जिगीषन्तावुपचक्रतुरात्मनः (utthāpanairunnayanaiścālanaiḥ sthāpanairapi | parasparaṃ jigīṣantāvupacakraturātmanaḥ) || Bhāgavata 1.44.5.
