Relaxing (on a bed) is associated with Sama: one of the nine kinds of śayyāsthāna or “lying down postures” (in Indian Dramas), as conveyed through Āṅgikābhinaya: one of the four divisions of Abhinaya or “ways to convey or represent one’s emotion to others”, according to the Nāṭyaśāstra and the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, an ancient Sanskrit text which (being encyclopedic in nature) deals with a variety of cultural topics such as arts, architecture, music, grammar and astronomy.—When a person is relaxing on a bed with up warding face and loose hands, that posture is called sama.

Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. 1) Being Relaxed is known in Sanskrit as Praśithila, according to the Jayākhyasaṃhitā verse 33.19.—Accordingly, “[The Yogin] should make the joints of his body loose, his chest broad and shoulders comfortable. Having made his arms relaxed (praśithila), he should slightly tilt the head [down]”.

2) Relaxed (limbs) is denoted by the Sanskrit term Ślatha, according to the Amanaska Yoga treatise dealing with meditation, absorption, yogic powers and liberation.—Accordingly, as Īśvara says to Vāmadeva: “[...] [Now], I will teach the practice of that, which produces absorption. Seated comfortably in a solitary place on an even seat, having been supported a little from behind, the gaze [held] steady at an arm’s length, the limbs relaxed (ślatha-aṅga) and free from worry, do the practice. [...]”.
