Source: History of Science in South Asia: Making Gems in Indian Alchemical LiteratureRasakhaṇḍa (रसखण्ड) refers to the “section dedicated to mercury” of the Rasaratnākara (lit. “jewel mine of mercury”): a 13th century alchemical work in Sanskrit written by Nityanātha.—The Rasaratnākara consists of five parts (khaṇḍas). The first section [i.e., the rasakhaṇḍa] is very similar in content to the oldest of the Sanskrit alchemical works. It describes the various ways in which mercury and a range of auxiliary substances are processed for their formulation into elixirs.
