Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).

ōlāṇḍā (ओलांडा).—m A rag knotted with seven knots and containing seven marking nuts, thrown upon the public road by a person afflicted with boils or other sores (with the view of ridding himself of his affliction). 2 Disease contracted in consequence of stepping over such a rag; esp. Venereal lues represented to have been caught either in this manner or by stepping over or making water at the spot at which a person afflicted with it has made water before. 3 (Esp. amongst hammals.) A place (a cleft or cut across the road) requiring to be stepped over.

Marathi is an Indo-European language having over 70 million native speakers people in (predominantly) Maharashtra India. Marathi, like many other Indo-Aryan languages, evolved from early forms of Prakrit, which itself is a subset of Sanskrit, one of the most ancient languages of the world.

Prakrit is an ancient language closely associated with both Pali and Sanskrit. Jain literature is often composed in this language or sub-dialects, such as the Agamas and their commentaries which are written in Ardhamagadhi and Maharashtri Prakrit. The earliest extant texts can be dated to as early as the 4th century BCE although core portions might be older.
