Nābhicchanda (नाभिच्छन्द) roof is similar to the lantern roof of the western architecture. It’s a very simple and effective method of covering a span. The construction consists of placing stone slabs at the four comers of the square diagonally to the preceding square. This method is repeated till the area is covered to the required size. Finally one capstone is placed at the top. In this method in the lower portion of the roof a big void is formed while its outer portion becomes bulbous.
