Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA locality in Avanti. Maha Kaccana once stayed there in a forest hut and was visited by Lohicca and his pupils (S.iv.116f). The Commentary (SA.iii.29) calls Makkarakata a town (nagara).
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
