[...] Yajurvedic Saṃhitas and Brāhmaṇas mentions kṛṣṇavrīhi (black rice), śuklavrīhi (white rice), mahāvrīhi (long rice), nīvāra (wild rice), hāyana (red rice growing in a year), āśu (swift growing rice) and māsūsya (a sort of wild rice) as varieties of rice.
