Kandhārapura is the name of an ancient locality.—The wife of Lakṣmideva I was Candaladevī, also called Candrike and Candrikādevī, daughter of a person named Rāja belonging to a family of Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, with the hereditary title of “supreme lord of Kupaṇapura, the best of towns”, who claimed to belong to the Yaduvaṃśa and were lords of the Hagaraṭage district; some of the records say that she attained victory over a number of serpents in an earthen water-jar,—the allusion apparently being to her having undergone some trial by ordeal.

Kupaṇapura or Kopaṇapur is the name of an ancient locality mentioned in the “Sāloṭgi pillar inscriptions” (10th century A.D.).—Kopaṇapura or Kupaṇapura, may be identical with Kopal in the Nizam’s State, on the Railway line from Gadag to Hospet. At any rate Kopaṇapura or Kupaṇapura must have been the residence of a separate branch of the Śilahāra or Selara dynasty, whose remaining three branches called themselves ‘ lords of Tagarapura’.
