Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesSon of Saddha Tissa and younger brother of Lanjaka Tissa. He was king of Ceylon (50-43 B.C.).
Among his religious works was the construction of the Kurundavasoka Vihara.
He was killed by the general Maharattaka. Khallatanagas wife was Anula, and his son was Mahaculika. Mhv.xxxiii.29ff.; Dpv.xx.12f.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
