Kāmavṛddhi (कामवृद्धि) is the Sanskrit name for a medicinal plant possibly identified with Blepharis edulis Linn. or “uttanjan” from the Acanthaceae or “acanthus” family of flowering plants, according to verse 4.196-197 of the 13th-century Raj Nighantu or Rājanighaṇṭu.

Kāmavṛddhi is mentioned as having six synonyms: Smaravṛddhi, Manojavṛddhi, Madanāyuddha, Kandarpajīva, Jitendriyāhva, Kāmopajīva and Jīva.

Properties and characteristics: “the seed of this drug (i.e., Kāmavṛddhi) is sweet (madhura) and promotes strength and libido. It is appetiser and helps in the development of the male organ (indriya-vṛddhida)”.
