jhālara (झालर).—f ( H) Fringe. 2 The wickerwork covering of the māndaṇa or nānda at a sugarmill: also a loose-textured basket answering the same purpose, viz. that of filtering the expressed juice in its passage to the māndaṇa (receiving vessel in a hole in the ground). 3 A circular and shallow tray of basketwork with a border. Used esp. sāḍyācyā divasīṃ or in connection with sāḍē (See sāḍē) to hold lamps, raṅgācā tāmbyā (pot containing juice of the flowers of palāśa &c.), an image of bāḷakṛṣṇa &c. This tray is placed on a person's head in order to perform gōpā mutaviṇēṃ q. v.
