Source: What is India: Annual Report on Indian Epigraphy (1945-1952)Herūr is an archaeologically important site situated in Hangal-taluk (Dharwar district), known for inscriptions regarding the ancient history of India. For example, at Herūr there is a damaged hero stone set up near the tank by the side of the village which records the death of Chaladaṃka-śeṭṭi in a cattle raid on Kalukere by Kammadeva. This inscription belongs to king Pratāpachakravarti Vīra Ballāla of the Hoysala dynasty.
