Guṇakarman (गुणकर्मन्).—A term used by the ancient grammarians for the गौणकर्मन् (gauṇakarman) or indirect object of a verb. having two objects.The word is found quoted in the Mahabhaya; cf. कथिते लादयश्चेत्स्युः षष्टीं कुर्यात्तदा गुणे । गुणे गुणकर्मणि । (kathite lādayaścetsyuḥ ṣaṣṭīṃ kuryāttadā guṇe | guṇe guṇakarmaṇi |) cf. also गुणकर्मणि लादिविधिः सपरे (guṇakarmaṇi lādividhiḥ sapare) M.Bh. on I. 4.51.

Guṇakarman (गुणकर्मन्).—n.

1) an unessential or secondary action.

2) (in gram.) the secondary or less immediate (i. e. indirect) object of an action; e. g. in the example नेताऽश्वस्य स्रुघ्नं स्रुघ्नस्य वा, स्रुघ्नम् (netā'śvasya srughnaṃ srughnasya vā, srughnam) is a गुणकर्मन् (guṇakarman). °vibhāga a. distinguishing an action and an attribute.

Guṇakarman is a Sanskrit compound consisting of the terms guṇa and karman (कर्मन्).
