Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesAn arahant. One hundred thousand kappas ago, when in Tavatimsa, he heard sounds of great excitement because a Buddha had been born in the world. He visited the Buddha on his death bed and offered a mandarava flower.

Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
