Source: Wisdomlib Libary: The Brahmāṇḍa-purāṇaDivamaṇḍala (दिवमण्डल) refers to the “stratosphere”, according to the Brahmāṇḍa-purāṇa 2.22 (“Description of the divine luminaries”). Accordingly, as the sages asked Sūta: “How do these luminaries revolve in the stratosphere [i.e., divamaṇḍala] without any clash or confusion or without any structural formation? Does any one make them revolve or do they revolve of their own accord? O excellent one, we wish to understand this. Narrate this unto us”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
