Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionarydaṇḍavata (दंडवत).—n (daṇḍa An exercise of the gymnasium, vat Particle of similitude.) A prostration of the body (in worship or in salutation). Pr. aṭakaḷalyā dēvā daṃ0. A man stumbling exclaims, O idol! I salute thee. The proverb signifies Turning an evil accident to good account; and is of kin to Cæsar's Teneo te Africa. daṇḍavata is used by the lower castes as namaskāra by Brahmans.
