Buffalo milk represents an ingredient part of some kind of extraordinary recipe described in the Kautukāni (classified as literature dealing with astronomy, astrology, divination, medicine), which is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppi’ library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—The Kautukāni contains extraordinary recipes and prescriptions phrased with the syntactic pattern ‘if this or this would be done (optative), then this or this happens’. Buffalo milk was traditionally used in crafting Hard Cement, which was used as a Material for the Construction of Temples and other buildings, according to the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, an ancient Sanskrit text which (being encyclopedic in nature) deals with a variety of cultural topics such as arts, architecture, music, grammar and astronomy.—In the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, five procedures of preparing the vajralepa are suggested.—The third variety of vajralepa was the mixture of the horns of bull and buffalo, skin of goat, milk of buffalo, juice of bimba and kapittha.
