Bhayavihvalita (भयविह्वलित) refers to “becoming excessively terrified”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.5.15 (“The birth of Jalandhara and his marriage”).—Accordingly, after Bṛhaspati spoke to the Gods: “On hearing these words uttered by the preceptor of the gods, they abandoned all hopes of victory. They became excessively terrified (bhayavihvalita). All the gods including Indra, struck by the king of the Asuras all round, lost courage and fled in all directions. On seeing the gods routed, the Asura, Jalandhara, the son of the ocean, entered Amarāvatī with sounds of victory from the conches and drums. [...]”.
