Bhāraṅgī (भारङ्गी) is a Sanskrit word referring to Clerodendrum serratum (beetle killer), from the Lamiaceae. Various other sources connect the name with Clerodendrum indicum or Clerodendrum siphonanthus. It is also known as Bhārṅgī or Kharaśāka. It is used throughout Ayurvedic literature such as the Caraka-saṃhitā and the Suśruta-saṃhitā.

According to the Mādhavacikitsā (7^th century Ayurvedic work), this plant (Bhāraṅgī) is mentioned as a medicine used for the treatment of all major fevers, as described in the Jvaracikitsā (or “the treatment of fever”) chapter. In this work, the plant is also known by the name Bhārṅgī and Bhārgī.
