Bākucī (बाकुची) is a Sanskrit word referring to Psoralea corylifolia (Malaysian scurfpea), in the Fabaceae family. Certain plant parts of Kūṣmāṇḍaka are eaten as a vegetable (śāka), according to Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna (chapter 27), a classical Ayurvedic work. The plant is therefore part of the Śākavarga group of medicinal plants, referring to the “group of vegetables/pot-herbs”. Caraka defined such groups (vargas) based on the dietic value of the plant. Other commonly used English names include: “babchi leaves”.

Bākucī is also identified as a synonym for Avalguja, referring to the same Psoralea corylifolia, according to the Bhāvaprakāśa, which is a 16th century medicinal thesaurus authored by Bhāvamiśra.
